Help shape the future of the Gorge

July 8, 2025

Municipalities along the Gorge Waterway and Portage Inlet are working together on a coastal flood adaptation strategy and want to hear from you.

Share your feedback on what areas you value most along the Gorge. Input will help shape adaptation options to protect homes, businesses, infrastructure and natural areas from current flood risks and rising sea levels caused by climate change.

Have your say by:

  • Completing the survey
  • Sharing places that are important to you by adding a pin to our interactive map
  • Visiting us at a community pop-up event

The feedback we receive will inform the Gorge Coastal Flood Adaptation Strategy, a collaboration between Victoria, Esquimalt, Saanich and View Royal, with support from the Capital Regional District.

Next steps include a technical study to evaluate flood hazards and infrastructure vulnerabilities, a risk assessment that builds on previous studies to better understand the site-specific risks from sea level rise and the development of recommended adaptation options for the strategy.

The partner municipalities received $350,000 to develop the Gorge Coastal Flood Adaptation Strategy from the Province of B.C.’s Community Emergency Preparedness Fund, under the Disaster Risk Reduction-Climate Adaptation stream.

Engagement is open until Sept. 30, 2025. Learn more at engage.victoria.ca/gorge-flooding
