Surface improvement construction is scheduled to take place on the Interurban Rail Trail between 5066 and 5190 West Saanich Road during the week of August 17. For safety reasons, the trail will be closed to trail users for up to 1 day on August 18, 2026 (Weather dependent, updates will be posted if required). If possible, please avoid the area until work is complete; loose gravel will remain on the trail for about one week while the new surface cures.
Residential driveway access will be available – expect delays.PLEASE DO NOT PARK ALONG THE ROAD/TRAIL ON THE DAY WORK OCCURS.
- The Echo Place boat launch at Prospect Lake will be closed starting at 10pm on Monday, August 17 to 6am on Thursday, August 20 to support a survey of the distribution of Eurasian watermilfoil. Eurasian watermilfoil is an invasive species growing in Prospect Lake since 2019, which can impact local aquatic plants and wildlife as well as recreations.
- Ambassador Park is getting a New Scoreboard: Over the next couple of months, the Lakehill Baseball and Softball Association will be having a contractor remove an old scoreboard that is no longer working. This will be replaced with new posts and footings that will support a new scoreboard that will face Diamond #2. During this process, there will be temporary closures of the main path and possibly even temporary closure of the Morris St. Parking Lot. Please watch out and respect all signs and temporary closures. We thank you for your patience and understanding. View the map here.
- People, Pets and Parks Strategy updates.
- Effective immediately, dogs must be on-leash on select trails at all times at Panama Flats.
- Dog leash optional trails at PKOLS (Mount Douglas Park) will have new page wire fencing and chicane gates installed, with construction expected to start in February 2026. Trails will be closed for construction. Detours will be marked when feasible.

- Please enjoy our parks and trails while providing personal space to other park guests and respecting peoples' personal choices.
- Hosting an event outdoors in a park? Apply for a Park permit for use of any sports field or priority use of picnic tables.
- Wanting to bring your class for a field trip in a park? Apply for a Park permit so that we can ensure that there are no conflicting activities already booked.
- If you pack it in, pack it out! Anything you bring to a park should go home with you. Please never leave trash, food containers, animal waste or other items.
- Wanting to bring a group of five or more people to volunteer in a Saanich Park? Fill out our Saanich Parks Stewardship Group Activity Request Form. Please note: activites for large groups of 20 or more take place from September to March to avoid potential disturbance to nesting birds from April to August.
