Saanich’s urban forest is vital for our community. The urban forest is a major component of Saanich’s green infrastructure and natural areas, supporting biodiversity, cleaning air and water, and improving the quality and livability of urban neighbourhoods.
Saanich’s Urban Forestry staff protect and enhance the urban forest on public lands, while providing a safe environment for the public through provision of the following services:
- tree planting on boulevards, medians, undeveloped road right of ways, and manicured parks;
- administering the Tree Protection Bylaw on public lands;
- provision of adverse storm and weather event response and hazard tree mitigation services on public lands;
- full-service tree care to ensure the long-term health of the District’s public trees including but not limited to tree health and risk assessments, pruning, watering, fertilizing, mulching, and management of wounds, pests, and diseases; and
- coordinated plan review and arborist supervision services for municipal infrastructure projects.
