Description:

Do you have a passion for trees and want to contribute to Saanich’s urban forest? The Parks Division is seeking a dynamic team leader as a Development Review Supervisor for a three-year term. This position leads a team of arborists who review development applications and makes improvements to processes and programs related to the urban forest. As the supervisor, you are responsible for mentoring staff, complex development review, troubleshooting, and resolving conflicts in development applications as they relate to trees, the Urban Forest Strategy and the Tree Protection Bylaw. You will help Saanich find efficiencies, improve turn-around times, enhance customer service and improve awareness about trees in Saanich. 

Requirements include: university degree in urban forestry, forestry, environmental studies, natural resource management, biological sciences, planning, geography or other related field; five years of experience administering bylaws, regulations, or legislation, preferably in a municipal setting, including 2 years’ experience reviewing plans and development proposals, as they relate to trees; 1 year of experience leading projects and supervising others preferably in a union setting; Certified Arborist (International Society of Arboriculture); ISA Tree Risk Assessor Qualification; strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office; excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes and possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.  Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week between 7am-5pm (exact hours to be determined).
