Description:

The District of Saanich is one of the four core municipalities within the Capital Regional District. The community is home to over 117,000 citizens and is comprised of urban, suburban and rural areas, and 12 diverse neighborhoods. Saanich is known for its progressive initiatives in the areas of Community Planning, Housing, and Climate Change.

Saanich is seeking an experienced Senior Planner – Implementation to join our Community Planning team. The successful candidate will be innovative, pragmatic and self-motivated, with a focus on customer service. Skill sets will include thorough knowledge of planning principles and legislation, extensive experience in managing development applications and drafting zoning, an understanding of land economics and urban design, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The individual will be team focused, working with a diverse group of professionals to implement our Official Community Plan.

The successful candidate will undertake a wide variety of municipal planning work, with a focus on implementing recently adopted plans and policies. Work will include developing or updating regulations, including the Zoning Bylaw, to implement policy; analysing complex planning issues; undertaking engagement with key internal and external stakeholders; and conducting research, preparing and presenting reports. The successful candidate will also provide support and supervision of Community Planning programs, making technical and administrative decisions, which may include personnel issues and budgets.

Requirements include a Master’s Degree in Planning; six year’s progressive experience in the field of public planning, preferably in a municipal Planning environment; membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners; and a valid BC Class 5 Drivers Licence. Consideration may be given to candidates who hold an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week) with a possibility of flex days and a modified work schedule. Occasional work from home is available depending on work assignments.
