Brave New World
October 10 to November 3, 2024
About the Artwork:
This series explores the evolution of movement from isolation to healing and connection with the world around us. The pandemic left many people cut off, with an uncertain view of the future. Through a series of large paintings, we follow figures as they contemplate their place in this “Brave New World”, and the evolution required to bust out and embrace life. The story is told chronologically, with each painting. The viewer sees primary figures in the isolated stage of their thinking - to every gingerly step forward. The titles of the paintings invoke simple actions like “Arise” and “The Climb”, to re-enforce the idea that making this transition is an act of will and courage. As the story unfolds, nature takes a greater role in what is surely hope. Not just for the people who embrace it and heal from it, but for the world itself. This connection between the figure and nature ensures each other’s survival.
About the Artist:
Painting helps me figure out what lurks in my subconscious, and how to resolve my anxiety around the environment and social issues. I’ve been in group and solo shows since the mid 90’s in Alberta, Manitoba and B.C.
