Group Exhibition – Claire Christinel, Rory MacDonald, Deborah Czernecky, Kathleen Schmalz
Capturing the Essence
November 6 to December 1, 2024
About the Artwork:
We are four painters who embody a deep appreciation for the natural environment of Vancouver Island. We continue to refine our works by simplifying what we are seeing and, at the same time, developing intimacy for the forms of the landscape as expressed through painting.
About the Artists:
Claire Christinel – I am enamored with the joy of painting on location in nature. This form of painting immerses one in the beauty of our west coast environment of shorelines and forests which I feel a deep connection to.
Rory MacDonald - My paintings are my ongoing conversations with nature to gain a sense of place. When painting the landscape, the weather and light are always changing and, in each condition,
a different interesting face is presented.
Deborah Czernecky - I am an established Canadian Artist who comes from a family with an array of artistic abilities. Growing up in the interior of British Columbia, I developed a life-long passion for paint and nature, particularly its spirituality.
Kathleen Schmalz - I don’t aim to create beautiful work, but rather, to explore other, sometimes un-named feelings summonsed by the confluence of place and time. These days,
this quest is fulfilled by working on site in the forests and seashores of the West Coast of British Columbia and in my
studio on the Sooke Basin.
