Christine Reimer
Peripheral Vision: all we feel but cannot see
March 5 to March 30, 2025

About the Artwork:

How do we perceive the world around us?  Using our 5 senses, of course, but in a subconscious way. If we could use all our senses, consciously, in combination with imagination, what would this look like?

What is the difference in light at morning, midday and evening?  Is early morning light soft? harsh? warm? cold? Are there sounds you associate it with? A taste?  In general, we only associate eyesight with the act of painting. However, I’m intrigued with the notion of creating art intuitively, utilizing all of my senses.

There is a highly tactile quality
in most of my artworks. Certain
colours may seem out of place
but create a particular mood or sensibility. I incorporate the
rhythms and cadence of music
through my lines and brushstrokes. Some segments of the canvas can stand alone but are also an essential contribution to the overall work.

About the Artist:

I was born in Duncan, BC July 1954. My family, who had deep historical roots in Victoria, moved back to the city in 1956. I received all my education in Victoria. From a very young age, I knew I wanted to be an artist. Photography became my first step, then sketching on the canvas in my studio and finally creating the images with acrylics. I always painted from my own photographs as they enabled me to recall the larger landscape I had experienced. I have had multiple shows of my abstract work. It continues to sustain me, exhilarate me and challenge me every single day. My art continues to evolve. To me, this is at the heart of a creative life.
