Mezzanine Wall Gallery
Claudia Malacrida
October 30 to November 25, 2024
About the Artwork:
My art is mostly land or seascapes, showcasing BC and Alberta, where I’ve spent much of my life. I’m in love with
the clear, brilliant light of the prairies,
enchanted by the serene glow of the coast, and it is my deep pleasure to express my way of seeing those places through painting so others can share
the joy and solace that nature offers.
About the Artist:
I’m a (re)emerging artist, having studied earlier at the University of Calgary in a Fine Arts degree program. Taking up brushes again after a long hiatus of family and career, I’ve been delighted to reconnect to that earlier passion and my earlier, less distracted self. Nature invites us to see a world that, despite its trauma and chaos, remains exquisitely beautiful. Painting nature is seeing, feeling, being, immersing in that beauty, and I hope to share at least some of that sense in my completed works.

About the Exhibit:
Saanich Remembers World War One was launched to commemorate the centennial of the First World War. The purpose of the project is to remember and honour the hundreds of Saanich residents who served in the First World War and to learn more about the impact of the war on the community. As of now, the project is complete, with hundreds of biographies written by Saanich Archives and volunteers, available to view on our website.
This exhibit highlights just a fraction of the Saanich men
who served during WWI.

Second Floor Wall Gallery
Sage Melling
October 30 to November 25, 2024
About the Artwork:
The World Through My Eyes is about
how I have been experiencing and
seeing the world within the past few years as a queer, neurodivergent and physically disabled young adult. Expressive colour, layers, texture,
mark-making with some integrated physical representation in my work
have helped me balance persistent negative thoughts of physical pain, nausea, vertigo, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, grief and body image.
About the Artist:
I am a visual artist who has had the privilege to call Saanich, BC home my whole life. I have a neurological disorder that affects my mobility, coordination and energy both constantly and unpredictably in heightened episodes. As a disabled queer woman with fluctuations in health, I’ve cherished visual art as the most consistent, flexible and satisfying form of self-expression in my life.
