Saanich, BC – The District of Saanich is upgrading major infrastructure with the installation of a new sanitary sewer on North Dairy Road, Kingsley Street, and Lansdowne Road. Construction is anticipated to begin in May 2018 and end in October 2018. 

The main goal of this infrastructure upgrade project is to reduce the sanitary sewer flows to the Wetherby Pump Station. This upgrade will permit the pump station to remain at optimum functionality while managing the existing flow conditions and any new flows generated by developments in the catchment area. The sanitary sewer on North Dairy Road will be redirected diverting flows to the CRD Northeast Bowker Trunk System. 

To take advantage of the deep excavation needed for the sanitary sewer diversion, aged storm drain and watermain infrastructure will be replaced on Kingsley Street at the same time. This preventative maintenance and upgrade helps avoid digging up the same area twice, reducing costs and disturbances to residents. 

On March 19, Saanich Council approved the tender for construction to Don Mann Excavating. The total infrastructure upgrade project budget is $2.1 million. 

Construction impacts 

Residents can expect traffic delays and impacts to street parking. Electronic sign boards will help divert traffic to other major routes. 

During construction, Saanich staff will provide updates to directly affected property owners for disruptions to:

• Garbage and recycling pick up
• Water, sewer and drain services
• Residential driveway access
