Saanich, BC – As of 10 p.m. Saturday, October 20, Fred Haynes has been elected as Mayor and Rebecca Mersereau, Colin Plant, Ned Taylor, Susan Brice, Zac de Vries, Judy Brownoff, Nathalie Chambers and Karen Harper were elected as Councillors for a four-year term at the District of Saanich. Office of School District 63 Trustee candidates Victoria Martin and Teri Vanwell were acclaimed.
All mail-in ballots, mobile polls, advance voting and general local election day ballots have been processed to determine the preliminary results.

Community opinion questions preliminary results
The District of Saanich and the City of Victoria Councils asked voters a non-binding community opinion question on the ballot: Are you in favour of spending up to $250,000 for establishing a Citizens’ Assembly to explore the costs, benefits and disadvantages of the amalgamation between the District of Saanich and the City of Victoria?
• Yes – 16,852 votes
• No – 13,274
Saanich included an informal poll on the ballot to provide guidance to Council to appoint four of its members as directors of the Capital Regional District. Not all candidates put their name forward to be appointed a CRD director.

Quick facts
- Mayor and Councillors will be sworn in at the inaugural Council meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2018.
- A total of 32,538 votes were cast representing 38.26 per cent of Saanich’s eligible voters.
