Traffic light upgrades coming for Quadra-McKenzie intersection
July 4, 2018
Information bulletin
For immediate release
Saanich, BC - This summer, Saanich crews will replace aged infrastructure at the intersection of Quadra Street and McKenzie Avenue. Four main traffic signal poles will be replaced and new pedestrian controls will be installed to increase the accessibility and safety for pedestrians.
The project also includes adjustments to traffic signal timing. These adjustments are designed to reduce congestion on McKenzie and coordinate the signal with others on the McKenzie Avenue corridor.
Additional work includes upgrading the eastbound BC Transit bus stop on McKenzie Avenue to improve accessibility. Upgrades to the bus stop will include a larger waiting area and a new shelter, making the popular stop a more rider-friendly space.
Construction is slated to begin in July and last until September 2018. Crews aim to take advantage of the lower traffic volumes that come with school being out of session. Portable changeable message boards will be in place to advise commuters of varying construction hours. Up to date information will be posted throughout the project on Saanich’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
