October is Cyber Security Awareness Month

Cyber Security Awareness Month is an international campaign held every October to share information about the importance of cyber security. Cyber security is the protection of computer systems from theft of or damage to their hardware, software, or data as well as protection from disruption or misdirection of the services they provide.

Our IT Division is focused on helping all Saanich staff be more secure online, by increasing their knowledge about the simple steps to take to protect themselves, their families, their workplaces, and their devices. There’s lots of information and help out there for Saanich residents, too. A great place to start is the Government of Canada’s Get Cybersafe website.

This year’s theme is “Protecting our Devices”. Each week, we highlight to staff different aspects of cyber security from the Get Cybersafe website. At the end of October we will share another news item summarizing what we have shared through the month!
