Arbutus Cove slope slump on December 22, 2021
Saanich, BC – The District of Saanich is aware that a portion of the steep area above Arbutus Cove slumped onto the beach along Arbutus Cove the evening of Dec 22, 2021. At this time all visitors to Arbutus Cove and Hollydene Parks, as well as nearby residents, are asked to stay off the beach and beach access trails that lead to Arbutus Cove. The trail access points (stairs) at both parks are taped and signs are posted stating they are closed.
Saanich is still assessing the situation, with a focus on public safety along the beach. Until more information is known, the access points to the beach at both Arbutus Cove Park and Hollydene Park are closed until further notice.
Saanich has notified the Department of Fisheries and Oceans as the foreshore is their jurisdiction.
Saanich will continue to monitor the situation.
We thank the public in advance for refraining from visiting these areas until we can assure public safety. There are many other beach access points in Saanich and more information can be found at saanich.ca.
