Saanich, BC – The District of Saanich will celebrate Tree Appreciation Day with a public tree planting event at Colquitz Park on November 5. The event encourages residents to improve their natural intelligence and enhance Saanich’s urban forests by planting trees.

In 2019, Saanich declared a climate emergency and committed to increasing the number of trees planted in the district. To support this commitment, Saanich Parks is engaged in diverse tree planting initiatives such as Tree Appreciation Day. These tree planting initiatives also help advance Saanich’s strategic goals related to urban forest enhancement, climate action, and environmental leadership.

As part of the event, Saanich Parks staff alongside other passionate volunteers will plant approximately 35 trees that are native to this region and to Canada. This includes, but is not limited to, Garry Oak, Big Leaf Maple, Trembling Aspen, Black Hawthorn, and Serviceberry. Another 45 trees will be planted the week before, together with schoolchildren and community members, as part of Tree Appreciation Week.
