Saanich looks to kick-off June as Pride Month!
Saanich, BC – The District of Saanich wishes everyone a Happy Pride Month for June 2022! Once again, Saanich will partner with Victoria Pride Society and Inter-cultural Association (ICA) to bring their fabulous celebration of Pride to the community.
Join virtually at 10 a.m. June 1, 2022 at Facebook.com/Saanich.BC for a live video as Acting Mayor Karen Harper raises the Progress Pride Flag at Municipal Hall and proclaims June to be Pride Month in Saanich, in support and celebration of the Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer community.
“Saanich Council and staff look forward each year to the many Pride activities in our community,” said Acting Mayor Karen Harper. “We strive to eliminate discrimination in all of its forms, choosing instead to help create an equitable and inclusive community that addresses discrimination in our diverse home.”
Saanich Pride in the Park
New for 2022, this family-friendly event for all ages will take place June 16 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Beckwith Park. Come and enjoy music, food, and activities, and you can even make a pride-themed craft to take away!
Saanich’s partners
Saanich’s partners, the Victoria Pride Society and ICA, provide many resources to LGBTQ2+ people who are looking for ways to build safe connections. The ICA Q+ Crew provides information, support and tools to help immigrants and refugees reach their goals. Mental health, culture, sexuality and gender can be a lot to handle, especially in a new country. That’s why ICA has launched the Q+ Crew support group for LGBTQ2S+ immigrants, refugees and BIPOC youth (18-30 years old).
The well-known advocacy group, Victoria Pride Society, is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing year-round LGBTQ2+ events and services. They believe that Pride belongs to the community, and they encourage you to wave your flag and celebrate the Pride in YOU!
