Burnside Road East watermain upgrade begins in new year

December 23, 2024

Saanich, BC – The District of Saanich is set to commence a significant watermain replacement project on Burnside Road East between Harriet Road to Dupplin Road.

Construction and traffic impacts will begin in early-January 2025 and is expected to last approximately four months.

Traffic impacts

  • Westbound traffic: Burnside Road East will be closed to westbound traffic between Harriet Road and Dupplin Road for the entirety of the project. Drivers are advised to use alternative routes.
  • Eastbound traffic: Burnside Road East will be reduced to a single lane for eastbound traffic within the project area.

Parking and active transportation impacts

Parking will be prohibited along the affected section of Burnside Road East. Cyclists must adhere to traffic control measures.

Active transportation and sidewalk improvements are not a part of this project scope. All surface features will be restored to existing condition once the watermain is replaced.

Public transit adjustments

Bus routes 21 and 22 will reroute temporarily, with the affected stop moving to Whittier Avenue. For the latest on route changes, visit the BC Transit Victoria webpage.

Business and resident access

Access will be maintained for local businesses and residents, though brief disruptions may occur. Those on the north-east side of Burnside will receive driveway slips for property access from the eastbound direction.
