Saanich, BC – Grab your crayons and markers! Young artists in Saanich are once again invited to share their designs for Mayor and Council’s 2024 holiday card.
“Last year’s submissions were snow creative, showcasing some pretty amazing local talent. I gotta sleigh, I am tree-mendously excited to see what types of designs come forward in this year’s contest,” says Saanich Mayor Dean Murdock. “My message to the kids is this: believe in your (s)elf and present your best work — yule never know what you can achieve unless you try. Good luck to all entrants!”
This year, the contest features an exciting new prize — the lucky winner will get the chance to serve as Mayor for the Morning! They’ll go behind the scenes at Municipal Hall and learn the ropes of the job with Mayor Murdock; meet firefighters, police officers, and Saanich staff; and have some fun too! Please note that a parent or caregiver is required to attend with the child as well.
The winner will also receive some drop-in passes to our Saanich recreation centres, a signed holiday card from the Mayor and keepsake holiday cards to share with loved ones.
The contest is open to Saanich students in grades K-5. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, November 27, 2024, and they can be sent to media@saanich.ca. Parents and educators are encouraged to help children scan their design in the largest size possible, at a resolution of 300 ppi or higher. Don’t forget to include the artist’s name and grade in your email!
Mayor and Council’s holiday card will feature the winner’s design, as well as their name and grade. The winning design will also be featured in holiday social media posts for the District of Saanich.
The winner will be notified by email and announced on the District and the Mayor’s social media channels in December. Good luck!
