Information bulletin
For immediate release
Saanich, BC – The District of Saanich is seeking public input as part of developing a community-wide Zero Waste Strategy.
Community members are invited to provide feedback via a survey that will gauge residents understanding and commitment to waste reduction, recycling, and composting and learn more about the challenges they face.
The Zero Waste Strategy will outline targets and actions on how to reduce the amount of waste Saanich sends to the landfill. Survey feedback will ensure that the programs and initiatives proposed in the final strategy are tailored to meet the needs of Saanich’s diverse residents.
Saanich’s 2020 Climate Plan identified the need for a Zero Waste Strategy and development of the strategy was approved by Council in May 2024.
The strategy will establish the vision, targets and next steps necessary for Saanich to become a zero-waste community. All proposed strategies will align with the extensive work already underway in the region and will focus on changing consumption patterns, improving diversion rates and implementing circular economy opportunities.
Survey information
The survey should take participants 5-10 minutes to complete, and it will be live until August 31, 2024. All responses are anonymous, and a preliminary survey results report will be published in the fall.
Your participation as an individual or household is critical as it will help us identify policies and actions that can address needs and challenges in our community.
