Saanich, BC – Splish splash! A new and more modern waterslide is coming to Saanich Commonwealth Place in 2025.
The current waterslide was built in 1993 and is at the end of its lifespan. After reviewing information from engineers and the manufacturer, the District has determined that replacing the waterslide is necessary and will be releasing a request for proposals to procure a new slide later this month. Saanich is looking to add exciting new features and is exploring the potential to accommodate lower rider heights so that even more people will be able to enjoy the fun.
To ensure safety of the public, the existing waterslide will remain out of service until it can be replaced. Staff will continue to offer patrons a wide variety of alternative activities to enjoy over the next several months as we await the new waterside.
What’s next?
The new slide is expected to be installed during the facility’s annual maintenance closure in Fall 2025. While this closure usually lasts two weeks, the demolition and installation process for the waterslide is expected to take approximately six weeks. To make the most of this extended aquatic closure, the District plans to complete some other important capital projects at the same time.
Staff hope to be able to reopen some pools after the standard two-week closure period to reduce impacts on High Performance users and the public. The main facility and dryland programming will resume normal operations after the standard two-week closure period.
The District thanks patrons in advance for their patience as we work to get this exciting new amenity built and ready to be enjoyed for years to come!
