Plan ahead for travel through Cadboro Bay

Saanich, BC – The District of Saanich is making commuting through Cadboro Bay safer and more accessible for all as part of the Sinclair Road Upgrades project.

The Active Transportation Plan (2018) prioritizes improvements to the Sinclair Road pedestrian and bicycle networks, and the District is excited to be moving forward with a project that addresses both.

Construction began this summer, after public consultation earlier in the year, and will continue through early 2026. We are asking residents who travel through this area as part of their daily commute to consider alternate routes on major and collector roads.

What can I expect during construction? 

• This is an active construction zone. There will be reasonable traffic disruptions, road closures, increased noise and slower speeds in the area.
• Stores and businesses in Cadboro Bay Village are open during construction. Please use slow speeds, follow signage and allow for extra travel time through the affected area.
• Access to residences, businesses and Gyro Park will be maintained.

What routes should I travel instead?

During construction, neighbouring residential streets cannot accommodate an influx of traffic. Please avoid cutting through smaller residential roadways when possible. When route planning, consider the following major and collector roads:

• Cedar Hill Cross Road
• Hobbs Street (between Sinclair Road and Arbutus Road)
• Finnerty Road
• Arbutus Road
• Cadboro Bay Road (this road will be impacted by construction closures at times)

Where can I learn more about what is happening?

Saanich staff are updating the project page on HelloSaanich with real-time traffic impacts. Residents can view the project designs and learn about the project goals, including:

• New underground servicing
• Safer sidewalk, crosswalk and bus stop infrastructure
• New separated bike lanes
• A new raised roundabout for better traffic flow
