Saanich Celebrates National Public Works Week!

Saanich, BC – National Public Works Week is May 19-25, 2024! This year’s theme is Advancing Quality of Life for All and serves as a welcome reminder to recognize and appreciate our Saanich Parks and Public Works professionals.

These departments operate out of the Saanich Public Works Yard and manage a wide variety of essential services in Saanich. Much of the work these dedicated workers do takes place behind the scenes, but it benefits us all daily. Ever wonder where our safe water comes from or who takes care of waste removal, traffic signals or park maintenance? You guessed it – thanks, Parks and Public Works!

Name That Sweeper Contest

Leading up to this week, Saanich announced a contest to Name That Sweeper! We received more than 250 naming submissions and Public Works staff has narrowed it down to the top five names. Visit HelloSaanich through May 25, 2024 to vote for your favourite name! The final name will be announced on May 27.

Tours for schools and the public

Local grade 4 and 5 classes will participate in private tours of the Public Works Yard this week and experience hands-on activities highlighting functions of Saanich Parks and Public Works.

Staff will host a two-hour public tour on Thursday, May 23 starting at 1 p.m. Registration is not required.
