Saanich, BC – The District of Saanich has received a $5,000 funding contribution from Toronto Dominion (TD) Bank, dedicated to enhancing the Pulling Together Park Stewardship Inclusion & Diversity Program.

The funding will enhance the capacity of the Saanich Parks Department to promote the program and partner with organizations serving diverse populations, such as newcomers and indigenous youth, thereby expanding volunteer stewardship opportunities in the different communities.

The first event under this expanded program took place on Tuesday, October 16, bringing together 23 students and 2 teachers from the Inter-cultural Association of Greater Victoria. The group enthusiastically engaged in crucial restoration activities, concentrating on the removal of invasive English Ivy, showcasing community involvement in ecological restoration.

The next event is scheduled for November 13 and will shift focus to planting native trees and shrubs at designated restoration sites. Participants will have the unique opportunity to contribute tangibly to environmental restoration efforts, gaining hands-on experience and fostering a sense of belonging and contribution to their local community.

We extend our gratitude to TD Bank for their substantial support, which plays a pivotal role in integrating under-represented groups into our stewardship program and fostering a more inclusive environment for environmental restoration.
