UPDATE: Temporary Closures – Rutledge Park and Beckwith Park Splash Pads

July 19, 2024

Information Bulletin
For immediate release

Saanich, BC – Following the earlier closure of the Rutledge Park splash pad to investigate a system performance issue, Saanich staff have now examined the equipment at Beckwith Park and found a similar problem.

Mitigation efforts currently in place will allow the Beckwith Park splash pad to stay open this evening until its usual closing time of 7:00 p.m. The closure of that splash pad will take effect tomorrow, July 20. Staff will continue to investigate the system functionality at both locations and hope to get both splash pads up and running again as soon as possible.

The District would like to assure the public there are no human health concerns. Potable water is entering the storm drain system which may have impacts on aquatic life downstream. The District takes the protection of the environment seriously, so the splash pads are being closed out of an abundance of caution as our investigation and maintenance work continues.

Staff became aware of the problem on Thursday afternoon, and took decisive action to put mitigation measures in place and enact the closures today.

We realize the splash pad closures may disrupt visitors’ plans and apologize for any inconvenience. People can still enjoy the playgrounds, fields and sports courts during this temporary closure of the splash pads.

The District will share further updates on our website and social media channels as they become available.
