Saanich, BC – This Family Day, join the District of Saanich at the Family Arts Festival, held at the Cedar Hill Recreation and Arts Centre.

This fun-filled, free family event is a celebration of imagination, creativity and discovery. Kids of all ages will explore a wide variety of activities led by Arts Centre staff and guest instructors from the region’s arts and culture community, as well as watch and listen to an array of live performances.

Featured in the Main Gallery is the youth art exhibition. Growing Together: Art by Young People from the Arts at Cedar Hill showcases the creative expression of young artists from our weekly classes. The artwork explores identity, ancestry, family, and celebrates our relationships with community and the natural world. Create your own artwork in the Gallery by contributing to a collective community portrait. The murals created will be displayed in the arts centre for the duration of the exhibition, running February 15 – March 2, 2025.

Participants can also try clay hand-building in the ceramics studio, stitching, stamping, storytelling, playing with robotics and getting creative with a variety of other arts and crafts activities. With so many activity options, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Live music and cultural performances by local groups will take place throughout the day. These kid-friendly shows will feature groups such as the Lekwungen Traditional Dancers, Melody Moonshaker, Brian Cook and the Veselka Dancers. Audience members will learn about the cultural dances and songs and are encouraged to move to the music and sing along.

The Cridge Centre’s Second Chance Café inside the Cedar Hill Recreation and Arts Centre will be serving hot food and snacks for purchase throughout the day.
