Saanich, BC – In recognition of Emergency Service Dispatchers and 9-1-1 Awareness Week, April 13 to 19, the Saanich Fire Department acknowledges the dedicated and essential service of our dispatchers. Saanich Municipal Hall will light up red and blue during the week, as will other notable buildings such as the YVR Tower Lights and Legislative Assembly of British Columbia on April 14.
“At Saanich Fire, this important week has two objectives. The first is to recognize and thank our dispatchers, who are the first link in the public safety chain for both the public and first responders. In addition, it is a great opportunity to share the appropriate use of 9-1-1 with the public” said Fire Chief Michael Kaye.
Saanich Fire Dispatch supports 18 regional departments, providing service to over 200,000 residents in the region. “Our team of dispatchers is second to none in the industry. If you have a need to call for help, be assured highly trained and capable staff will be answering your call,” says Kaye.
Saanich Fire Dispatch is offering the following 9-1-1 tips:
- Emergencies only: 9-1-1 calls are prioritized and answered before any other line. Only call 9-1-1 if you have an emergency for fire, police or ambulance. Use responsibility.
- Accidental 9-1-1 calls: we understand that this can happen. Stay on the line and do not hang up until the Call Taker says it is okay to do so. They may need to ask additional questions regarding the emergency.
