Saanich, BC – Saanich Mayor Dean Murdock took on the role of Mayor’s assistant as he and staff welcomed a new Mayor this morning! Weston Taiji, a grade 2 student from Saanich, served as Mayor for the Morning after winning Mayor and Council’s holiday card contest late last year.
“His Worship Weston” took part in a number of activities at Saanich Municipal Hall this morning, including:
- Creating a ‘chain of office’ out of Froot Loops
- Modelling his new hardware in Council Chambers
- Touring the Saanich Police and Fire stations – and some of their vehicles, of course!
- Meeting Parks staff working on the Hall grounds
And to round out his visit, Mayor Murdock presented Weston with the coveted “Candy Key to the District.”
“What a pleasure it was to welcome Weston and his family to the Municipal Hall. He did a great job as Mayor for the Morning, bringing a positive attitude and excellent decision-making skills to the table. This is on top of his great artistic skill, which we featured on our holiday card this past season. I have no doubt we will see this young man’s photo on the wall of Saanich Mayors in the not-too-distant future.”
