Volunteers express appreciation for working with Saanich Parks
Saanich Parks values the wonderful partnership between volunteers and staff. Pulling Together volunteers care deeply for the places they steward, and we collaborate to support common ecosystem restoration goals. Volunteer feedback reflects this mutually beneficial relationship.
Many thanks for your dedication and interest to Arbutus Cove Park. This will be our 12th year working at the park and we have made significant progress in removing invasive species and keeping many trees free of smothering ivy. A very special thanks to Saanich Parks for all their support such as removing our debris piles, treating some invasives (holly stumps, garlic mustard etc) and providing the park with some beautiful plantings which are even visited by the water trucks in the dry season! Staff do a super job of keeping us informed and on track in our park! Saanich Parks are very fortunate. I believe volunteers with support from Saanich Parks staff are “pulling together” in over 40 parks around the region!

I feel great privilege to share my love for Haro Woods with Arbutus Middle School students because nature is important to acknowledge. It reminds us of our lasting connection to the living world and each other. Removing English Ivy from our local park is an example of sane, local action. Their experiences in nature will promote a deep sense of well-being and my even put them in touch with spirit. We all need to be affected by our world and find more time to nurture wonder, find magic, seek beauty and experience more awe.

“I was really impressed by the hard work of all involved in the Braefoot Park restoration project last Tuesday. You, your Saanich Natural Areas crew, the volunteers and the two school groups did an outstanding job to help establishing the protected area around the Garry Oak. Also, my thanks for our gathering before work began to remind us of the importance of respecting our ancestors & the traditional land we live on. Thanks again”.
