What are the Centennial Trails?
Centennial Trails was an idea that started in 2003 as a way to celebrate Saanich’s 2006 centennial.
The project set out to improve existing trails and create new trails to fill key gaps in our trail system.
Where are the Centennial Trails?
There are several key trails that are intended to establish major east-to-west and north-to-south connections to all areas of Saanich.
Blenkinsop Greenway [PDF - 1.5 MB]
- Links Gordon Head and the University of Victoria to the Lochside Regional Trail
- Avoid busy roads with this east-to-west connection to the Lochside Regional Trail
- There are many regional trails and parks to enjoy along the way
Interurban Rail Trail [PDF - 530 KB]
- Parallels West Saanich Road, extending north to Wallace Drive from Interurban Road
- This trail follows the historic BC Electric Railway route for most of its 4.5km length
San Juan Greenway [PDF - 584 KB]
- Connects local residents to parks, Gordon Head Recreation Centre and local schools along its route from Mount Douglas Park to Arbutus Cove Park
- Takes you through the Vancouver Island Technology Park, Horticulture Centre of the Pacific and Layritz Park
- This multi-use trail also connects the Interurban Rail Trail
Colquitz River Trail [PDF - 578 KB]
- Travels mostly north-to-south through the Gorge, Carey and Royal Oak neighbourhoods
- It is a popular multi-use trail for pedestrians and cyclists
- The long term vision: to follow the river to Beaver Lake Regional Park
Royal Oak Trail [PDF - 600 KB]
- A key connector between the Lochside Regional Trail and the Colquitz River Trail
