Description:

The District of Saanich is seeking up to two Ceramic Technicians to provide directions and support for programs through The Cedar Hill Recreation and Arts Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the ceramics studio, which includes tasks such as firing and operating all kilns, mixing and maintaining glazes and supplies, and ensuring the safe and effective delivery of ceramics programs and services. They will need to demonstrate strong knowledge of the technical aspects of ceramics, as well as safe procedures for managing the studio. In addition, they should have excellent communication and problem-solving skills to assist studio users as needed.

In this role, the candidate will also support the overall delivery of ceramics programs, monitor the studio's general maintenance, and ensure the safety of the studio and its associated areas. They will conduct studio orientations for instructional staff, volunteers, and patrons to ensure everyone is properly trained on the studio’s procedures and safety standards.

Requirements include completion of Grade 12; two years experience working in a technical capacity in a ceramic’s studio and teaching; equivalent combination of education and experience; First Aid, CPR and AED Certification; and satisfactory police information check.
