We are hiring a permanent full-time position with an opportunity to work day or afternoon shifts. What you will do:
As part of the Fleet Section of the Public Works Division, you will perform work at the journey-level demanding skill and ability of the trade. Duties include specific tasks which require skills in heavy duty, commercial truck, automotive, diesel mechanics and electric vehicles, as well as welding, maintenance, electrical and body refinishing work on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.
What you will bring:
- Grade 12 or equivalent;
- Trades Qualification Certificate and Certificate of Apprenticeship in Commercial Transport, Automotive or Heavy Duty Mechanics;
- Four years of related experience including the apprenticeship experience;
- BC Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program Inspector’s Authorization Certificate; Certificate of Attendance from a vocational/technical school for ARC and MIG welding and/or equivalent experience;
- and a valid Class 3 British Columbia Driver’s Licence with an air brake endorsement.
Ideal candidates will be Certified in Heavy Duty mechanics or Commercial Transport and have the required knowledge to perform diagnostics on a variety of equipment using computerized scan tools; extensive knowledge of WCB regulations, WHMIS, and the Motor Vehicle Act; and a willingness to attend in-service training programs offered at Saanich or other authorized agencies. Automotive mechanics applicants with a BC Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program Inspector’s Authorization Certificate with Air Brake endorsement may be preferred.
Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Will consider hiring 4th or 3rd year apprentices that may not have received their Red Seal (Certified Heavy Duty and / or Commercial Transport) certification.
The successful candidate(s) will work Monday to Friday, either 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.; 40 hours per week. As part of our flexible work program, a modified work week is available.
