Description:

The District of Saanich is seeking an experienced painter for full-time work in Facility Operations. Primary responsibilities include preparing various surfaces and applying appropriate coating materials to municipal buildings, equipment and furnishings.  The qualified candidate must have the ability to prepare wood, metal and drywall surfaces for painting using various methods including sanding, scraping, patching, repairing, pressure washing, sandblasting and acid etching; apply coating materials including various types of paints, stains, varnish and wall coverings matching existing areas and coating; operate and maintain various hand tools and power equipment such as airless or pressure-feed spray systems, scaffolds, swing stage, needle gun, power lifts, ladder trucks and vehicles; install and repair ceramic and linoleum wall and floor tiles.

Requirements include: Grade 12 or equivalent; Trades Qualification Certificate in Painting;  Certificate of Apprenticeship; Three years of experience, including Apprenticeship of commercial and residential painting in addition to TQ experience; Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence; and Sufficient health, physical conditioning, strength, stamina and coordination to permit performance of work in all types of adverse conditions; must pass and maintain the required enhanced reliability security clearance for operational work with the Saanich Police Department.

The successful candidate will be required to work Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (40 hours per week).
