The Water Resources Division of Saanich Engineering provides professional services for the management of the municipal sanitary sewer, potable water and storm drainage systems. We are recruiting for two Engineering Technicians (level 4) to join our fast paced and diverse team. The ideal candidates are either experienced technologists or  engineering-in-training. The successful candidates will work in the infrastructure planning & analysis section; a technical team that is responsible for the development and implementation of utilities master plans, asset management plans, policies and technical initiatives for the sustainability of the District’s linear underground infrastructure and related facilities. The work of the Engineering Technician IV involves performing civil engineering work at a semi-professional level with a focus on the District’s water distribution system including project scoping; capital budget program development; hydraulic modelling; and other projects as the internal project manager; responding to public inquiries; providing technical support to internal staff; liaising with/making recommendations to the Engineering of Record; and participating in intra or inter-departmental initiatives as representative for the team. The role works under the guidance of professional engineers in the team; is afforded an appropriate level of independence in completing work assignments and an extraordinary variation in work tasks that will expand your functional knowledge of municipal infrastructure management in local government setting.  The successful candidates will possess a sound technical foundation, strong project management skills, well organized, have strong communication skills and an appetite for learning.

Requirements include a two-year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institution; a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience; is eligible for registration as an AScT with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians BC; possesses a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License. Familiarity with Civil 3D/AutoCAD and InfoWater Pro would be considered an asset. However, training will be provided for hydraulic modelling software.

Those who may not specifically meet the full extent of the listed qualifications are encouraged to apply, as the District may consider the totality of education, experience and training as an equivalent. Alternate qualifications will also be considered, such as a University Degree in a related field of Engineering and minimum of 2 years of related work experience, and eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC as an Engineer-In-Training. 

The successful candidates will work Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week) and will be eligible for participation in the District’s modified work week program (37.5 hours worked per week and every third Friday or Monday off). As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted.  Applications must include a cover letter and resume.
