Description:

Saanich Recreation is seeking experienced early childhood instructors to plan and lead programs for preschool age children starting in January and continuing throughout the school year.  The successful candidates must be confident to lead a class independently of up to 8 children and/or a parent and tot class with up to 16 children with accompanying caregivers. Classes have varying themes and usually include crafts, playtime, circle time, and gym time. In addition, we are also looking for on-call relief instructors to fill in for vacation coverage, illness etc. 

The successful candidates will be responsible for planning and delivering these programs including both parent and tot and preschool age lessons. This also involves ensuring the safety and well-being of participants and communicating and working cooperatively with their participants, parents, co-workers, coordinators and supervisors.

Requirements include completion of Grade 10; three months experience teaching preschool, early childhood classes or programs in a recreational or instructional setting; satisfactory police information check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS), Emergency First-Aid and CPR-C.

The ideal candidates will have the ability to be inclusive and flexible to ensure a positive environment is created for all participants; demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain a high degree of enthusiasm and personal motivation.  Experience working with people with behavioral or cognitive difficulties is an asset. An equivalent combination of education and expertise may be considered.  The successful candidates will be required to work varying shifts including but not limited to, Tuesdays 9-11am & Wednesdays 9-11:30am at Saanich Commonwealth Place starting in early January.  Successful candidates do not need to work all of these shifts; however, they should be available for at least 1 of[KA1]  the specified shifts listed in this posting.
