Description:

Saanich Community Services is seeking a creative, energetic, team oriented and motivated individual with youth and recreation experience to join our Youth Services Team as a Community Child & Youth Programmer I. Under the direction of the Community Programmer II, this position will be responsible for the operation of one of our Youth Centre’s and will plan, develop and implement youth programs as guided by our Youth Development Strategy. Our focus is to reach marginalized and underserved youth in our community, providing programs for a variety of diverse groups of youth. Therefore, knowledge of popular youth culture and trends will be an asset. 

Some additional responsibilities include providing leadership and training to staff, supporting camps and special events, and developing positive internal relationships and external partnerships with other youth serving organizations. The candidate will have working knowledge of budget revenues, expenses and promotional development for programs and excellent customer service skills.

Requirements include a two-year post-secondary diploma in recreation, leisure studies or a related field; two years of experience in program planning and staff supervision; Program specialty certification where required; satisfactory police information check no older than 6 months and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered.

Experience programming for a diverse variety of youth will be considered an asset. The successful candidate will work varying shifts including evenings and weekends. As a component of this competition testing will be conducted.

This position will remain open until the successful candidate is selected.  The first set of applications will be reviewed on September 27 for interviews scheduled on October 9 – 11.  Subsequent review of applications will occur every 2 weeks.
