The Public Works Division is seeking a Traffic Signal Technician I at the journeyman level who will be responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of municipal traffic signals, crosswalks, solar pedestrian crosswalks, signal pre-emption devices and related equipment. The successful candidate will supervise certified tradespersons, schedule maintenance activities and repairs. In addition, the Traffic Signal Technician I will provide professional input on new designs and supervise construction and installation of new traffic signals and related devices.
Requirements include: Grade 12 or equivalent; Provincial Trades Qualification Certificate or certificate of apprenticeship in electrical trade; Electrical Field Safety Representative (FSR-B) Designation; valid IMSA Level 1 accreditation; current Traffic Control Person Certificate; High Voltage Close Proximity Training Certification; supervisory training and experience; four years of experience in traffic signal maintenance and operation; training and/or experience in computer-based design specifically relating to traffic control, programming and maintenance; a valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence with air brakes and be physically fit to work in all weather conditions. And equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (40 hours per week).
