Strategic Facilities Master Plan
Saanich has a plan for its major facilities
Following a process that developed the plan and involved public input, Saanich Council has adopted the Strategic Facilities Master Plan. We now have a framework to invest and manage our facilities through maintenance, life cycle replacement, renovation and redevelopment
The plan looks at the strategic management of the District's publicly owned assets over the next twenty years with the goal of maintaining and improving services that residents rely on. The plan takes into account the District's anticipated population and demographic growth trends along with changes in services, standards and practices, building codes and the wear and tear that the facilities experience on a daily basis.
The document reflects the work and input that staff, consultants and residents have provided, believing that the quality of life in Saanich is strongly supported by services that are delivered through its facilities. Thanks to all of you for your interest, support, submitted surveys and conversations that have so greatly strengthened the document!
What is next?
In early 2019, staff will be returning to council to present the Business cases for the redevelopment of the two highest ranked priority projects:
- Parks and Public Works Yard at 1040 McKenzie Avenue
- Fire Hall Two at 4595 Elk Lake Drive
As outlined in the Strategic Facilities Master Plan, staff will test, analyze and cost the various opportunities and scenarios for each facility and present this information to Council. Project approval is done on a project by project basis only. Should Council approve a business case for capital investment for either or both of the Parks and Public Works Yard and Fire Hall Two, further project planning and development would follow.
