For immediate release
Saanich, BC – Exciting sustainability and accessibility improvements are coming to Cedar Hill Recreation Centre, and here’s what you need to know for the coming months!
The project will be split into two phases. The first phase, focused on mechanical upgrades, is now getting underway. Some of the sustainability improvements being made include:
- Transition of the main facility boiler from gas to a high efficiency air-to-water electric heat pump, and replacement of domestic hot water tanks from gas to electric;
- Upgrades to weight room heat pumps for increased heating and cooling capacity and efficiency, and addition of ventilation and heat recovery in the tennis facility; and
- Upgrades to LED lighting for increases in energy efficiency in the tennis facility.
Phase 2 will comprise architectural improvements to the facility, and will include:
- Addition of a main entrance vestibule to increase energy efficiency;
- A redesigned reception counter, new flooring and glazing upgrades; and
- New auto door-openers.
Funding for the Green and Accessible Improvement Project has been secured through Infrastructure Canada's Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program. Additional funding is being provided by the District of Saanich.
While we anticipate the ability to remain open during our renovations, there may be some temporary disruptions to programs or in accessing certain spaces in the recreation centre. You may experience noisy activity at times, or some limited disruptions to heating or other services. A new web page has been set up where regular updates on program and facility impacts will be posted. This information will also be shared inside the centre.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to improve your Cedar Hill Recreation Centre!
