Public invited to learn more about West Saanich Road project

Saanich, BC – Residents interested in what the future could hold for the District-owned lands on West Saanich Road are invited to an upcoming open house that’s being held in conjunction with a public meeting of the Royal Oak Community Association.
District staff have prepared a Development Concept Plan for the property located in the 4500-block of West Saanich Road. It is situated between the Pat Bay Highway and West Saanich Road, opposite the Royal Oak Mall and south of the Fireside Grill, and is proposed to be offered for lease or sale by a Request for Proposals process.
Staff will present the Concept Plan and receive comments from the public at the open house. Moving forward, District staff will be applying to pre-zone the lands to implement the Official Community Plan (OCP).
This initiative is driven and guided by the strategic priorities of Council, policy updates in the OCP and new Design Guidelines in 2024, responding to the recent Housing Needs Report and the provincial housing order applicable to Saanich.
Community engagement is focused on collecting input on issues and opportunities and receiving feedback on the Concept Plan. The information we gather will be considered as part of the preparation of a rezoning application that is anticipated to be presented to Council in summer 2025.
In-Person Open House and Royal Oak Community Association Public Meeting

- Public Meeting: 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
- Where: Saanich Community Church (Mennonite Brethren), 4566 West Saanich Road at Travino Lane.
