Youth Professional Email Required: No - **While this is not a requirement, our WYLD program is a great opportunity to encourage youth to set up a professional e mail address for all future leadership and work communication. **

Youth Independent Communication Required: No – **While this is not a requirement, our WYLD program is a great opportunity to encourage youth to start to independently communicate with our staff mentors through email and phone. **

Experience Required: Youth applying for this certificate program should be actively engaged with extra-curricular activities, school leadership, community leadership, or volunteering. Applicants should have a keen interest in learning and developing the skills and knowledge to one day work in policing or as a first responder.

Join us for this awesome new opportunity as the WYLD Leadership Program partners with The Saanich Police Department. This one-day certificate program is a great introduction to a day in the life of a police officer. The following activities will be covered throughout the day.

  • Physical Obstacle Course Race
  • Tour of Saanich Police Station and Cells
  • What do patrol officers do while on duty?
  • Hear from police officers about why they wanted a career in policing.
  • What the requirements are to become a police officer?
  • What is police camp and how and I join?
  • What is a reserve constable? How do I become one?
  • What is the Emergency Response Team? What do they do?
  • What are Forensics? How are they used in policing?
  • Police Boat Tour
  • Police Bikes Demonstration
  • Party Program Presentation

Upon a successful interview and enrollment in this program there will be a $50.00 registration fee. This fee includes: A special Police Youth Leadership T Shirt, lunch, and a certificate at the end of the program.
