The District of Saanich is seeking an experienced Emergency Program Specialist. Under the direction of the Emergency Program Officer, the Emergency Program Specialist is responsible for overseeing the Emergency Program volunteer components and public education initiatives. The incumbent works with staff and volunteers to coordinate the implementation of Emergency Program activities which will enable the municipality to respond quickly and effectively in providing essential services to residents and evacuees affected by an emergency or disaster. The ideal candidate is detail oriented and possesses strong leadership and organizational skills.
Requirements include: Grade 12 or equivalent plus 2 years post-secondary education in Emergency Management or directly related field in addition up to one year of JIBC courses, i.e (Emergency Support Services Director, Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Essential, Incident Command System certification levels 100 and 200 or equivalent combination of education and experience; two years directly related emergency management/preparedness experience including 6 months experience with corporate/municipal website and social media management, in addition to two years of emergency program volunteer management experience (both in staff/career capacity); possession of a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence with a personal vehicle for work related use; and flexibility to work outside structured work schedule, including some evenings and weekends to meet operational requirements.
