Chimney, Fireplace & Woodstove Permits

If you are planning on installing or constructing a chimney, fireplace and/or woodstove in Saanich, you need a fireplace permit.

If you are doing a new installation then Saanich can issue you a permit and inspect the installation.

If you require an inspection of an existing chimney or appliance for insurance or other purposes, you will need to hire a W.E.T.T. certified inspector. Fireplace retail outlets should be able to provide this service for a nominal fee. Make sure the inspector includes his or her W.E.T.T. certificate number on the inspection report.

The links below are designed to assist you with your permit application.

Application: Chimney, Fireplace and Woodstove

A complete application includes:

  1. Completed application form.
  2. Owner signature or if you’re not the owner, an Agent's Authorization from the owner.

Prior to your first inspection, the District of Saanich will require a Solid Fuel Appliance Declaration to be completed.  This must be available on site prior to scheduling a site inspection of appliance or chimney.
